Sep. 22, 2003
At IGAS, Baldwin Technology Company, Inc., leading international manufacturer of press accessory and control systems, will demonstrate the cost-effective and high-productivity capabilities of its Commercial and Newspaper Grade products, designed specifically to improve economic and environmental efficiency of printing presses. Baldwin will present live demonstrations of its IMPACT® automatic blanket cleaning system, BasicLiner™ water circulating system, GraphiSet™ GS4 IR dryer, WebCatcher™ web catching system, and MicroSet™ gluing system.
Automatic cleaning range
From the automated cleaning range of products, IMPACT® is the most environmentally-sound automatic blanket cleaning technology available for commercial web and sheet-fed presses. The system uses PREPAC® wash cloth rolls impregnated with the precise amount of an environmentally-friendly low VOC cleaning agent needed, so keeping the agent completely contained in the roll and totally eliminating solvent handling. Ink and paper dust residues are also retained in the rolls after cleaning. In addition to PREPAC® wash cloth rolls, IMPACT® also uses water in the cleaning process to completely dispose of all traces of ink and paper dust residues.
The self-contained IMPACT® system reduces make-ready times and lowers consumption of washcloth rolls resulting in savings for the printer. The absence of complex operating software makes IMPACT® an easy to use, low maintenance and efficient cleaning system, which can be retrofitted to existing presses or installed on new equipment. Fountain solution, temperature control and mixing system range.
Baldwin has developed systems for premixing, circulating, cooling and controlling offset fountain solutions that meet all the important requirements for high-quality offset printing. These systems provide consistent quality of the fountain solution throughout the entire production process, low alcohol consumption and the correct temperature level in the printing unit.
At IGAS, Baldwin presents its BasicLiner™ compact fountain solution unit, featuring the new alcohol measuring system - Balcontrol BC 713. The BasicLiner™ system for sheet-fed, web offset and newspaper presses, ensures the required amount of continuously cleaned and cooled fountain solution, of a constant composition, is always available in the fountain pans and/or the dampening units during the production run.
Balcontrol BC 713 ensures that consumption of 2-propanol is kept to a minimum level in the offset printing process, resulting in high quality fountain solution. Thanks to the system, printing quality is improved, and cost and waste are reduced.
Drying systems
GraphiSet™ is a complete range of IR and hot air drying systems utilizing shortwave IR drying modules to efficiently dry inks and water-based coatings on presses from low pile through to large format double coater configurations. GraphiSet™ improves production, provides superior gloss, faster turnaround, reduces spray powder and is designed for maximum press speeds.
Baldwin's new generation of IR dryers for ink and water-based coatings on perfecting and non-perfecting presses - GraphiSet GS4 - features high-efficiency drying modules which significantly reduce energy consumption for printers. The GS4's automatic temperature control, ability to store job information and easy-to-use touch screen controls eliminate the risk of operator error, reduce start-up time and waste, and increase production.
Web accessories
The automatic WebCatcher™ S15 is the world's fastest web catching system. The fully-integrated system, which has been designed for web presses running at speeds of up to 15 metres per second, offers a safety and protection system which reliably prevents web wraps in the printing units after a web break occurs in the dryer. This prevents damage to printing units, reducing downtime to a minimum. Integrated IR sensors continuously monitor the web and detect the formation of waves that are caused by the abrupt loss of web tension due to a web break. The system can be fitted or retrofitted into any commercial web offset press.
The contact-less MicroSet™ gluing system will also be demonstrated at the show. MicroSet™ is proven for longitudinal gluing and softening on web presses at high production speeds. While the folding aid improves the folding accuracy and provides smoother delivery of the folded products in the pile, the inline gluing units apply a continuous or intermittent glue line on the web in the running direction.
In-Line Sheeting System
Demonstrated on the stand will be the high-speed sheeter VITS-ROTOCUT S. This user-friendly, compact machine operates to its full speed potential when running with 35-250 g/sqm paper and provides exact cut off of the paper. Air conveying bars allow gentle sheet handling so that smooth delivery of even light paper is possible. VITS-ROTOCUT S is manufactured by VITS Systems, Germany, and distributed in Japan by Baldwin Technology Company, Inc.
