Baldwin Shows How To Keep Clean At Newstec

Visitors to the stand of Baldwin Technology at Newstec, 11th - 12th June, will be able to hear about the largest range of press controls and accessory equipment available for the newspaper market today. The company’s cleaning technologies are attracting a great deal of interest at present because of their cost effectiveness, ability to improve press productivity and environmental friendliness. The Jetstream 1000 and Tower Clean systems will be just two of the pioneering technologies that Baldwin will be telling visitors about.
Jetstream is a revolutionary approach to improving print quality, productivity and profitability on a web offset press, whether for commercial or newspaper applications. Jetstream’s special aerodynamic nozzle, positioned close to the web surface, works via a combination of vacuum in the cleaning module and a high velocity air flow, which moves along the web surface. The airflow breaks the boundary layer on the paper and forces the particles that were trapped in this layer into the cleaning module. An ionizing bar reduces static electricity, enabling the loose particles to be removed more easily from the web surface. The compact system requires little space, maintenance is minimal and one module will clean both sides of the paper web.
Tower Clean is a cost effective blanket cleaning system designed for single width presses. The system, which consists of a solvent applicator per tower, brush units and pumping station, automates cleaning, increases press productivity and improves the operator’s working conditions.
Tower Clean enables the blanket to be cleaned by contact with the moving web once the small profile applicator has applied a low VOC solvent to the paper. As the web reaches the blanket the brush unit, which is frequently installed only on the first-down blanket, is activated. This removes lint and ink. In addition, the Tower Clean process has a positive cleaning effect on the guide rollers.
“Tower Clean has generated a great deal of interest amongst newspaper printers in Europe and we have installations or orders for the system to be fitted to presses from leading manufacturers such as MAN, Goss, Solna and DGM,” says Baldwin Technology president Shaun Kilfoyle. “We expect the concept of lower priced, automatic blanket cleaning to appeal to a large section of the market, in particular the smaller daily newspapers and larger weekly titles.”
Tower Clean can easily be retrofitted to existing single width presses where newspapers are looking to eliminate manual blanket cleaning during production. The low investment cost, improved print quality and extended print cycle result in a short payback period, while the simplicity of Tower Clean insures a very low cost of ownership.
